SMALL SPACES - CLOAKROOM
The little Cloakroom refurbishment I have been working on for a lovely local lady is now complete.

At less than 2 metres squared this was a challenging project in terms of space.
Every millimetre has to work hard and this was key when I was designing the space.
The Cloakroom has also of course to be practical and comfortable to use which has meant sourcing and building bespoke units to scale (small scale).

The whole room was stripped out (for before photos see the end of this post).
First out was the regular door (who's swing took up the entire window wall).
This has been replaced with a neat pocket door system so that when the door is open the (also small) hall area feels larger and included.

Panelling built in around the room draws the eye and creates the illusion of space. As a result the room looks practical and neat.
The panelling has been repeated in the hall alcove opposite the Cloakroom to make the space feel larger on entering the house.
This creates a good first impression and one of my client's chief requests was that she wanted visitors to her home to enjoy using the little Cloakroom; we just took it a step further to spill into the Hall.

Limed wood effect tiles have replaced the original carpet, providing a practical and beautiful alternative flooring solution.
These have been cut and laid across the width of the room in a random pattern, drawing the eye in and across to the sink unit and mirror.

A strategically placed mirror reflects back the hall when the door is open.
The little peg rail beneath the window provides a neat place to hang coats that spill over from the hall and storage has been provided in bespoke cupboards scaled to the space.

Paint colours were chosen with care, keeping the floor and panelling light, with bright white woodwork and ceiling to bounce light around from the window.
A dramatic strip of dark wall adds depth.
Bespoke wall and sink unit cupboards - and the hall panelling - are picked out in a lighter tone of the blue/gray to bring these slightly forward against the dark colour.

Joinery design incorporates a sink unit, wall cupboard, and panelling with little details for practicalities:

Previously the boxing in the corner to the right of the WC continued all the way to the ceiling but investigation revealed that this wasn't necessary. Incorporating the boxing as part of the panelling design has allowed for more wall space and a place for my client to display favourite accessories.
